Keeping Long Boards Straight #woodworking #diy

Want to keep a board straight and flat without having to glue or attach it to a larger assembly? The solution is simply to rip the board in two and glue it back together. Of course, you have to carefully rearrange the ripped parts so their tendencies to warp or cup will be perfectly opposed to one another – Nick demonstrates just how to do this. This procedure also lets you reclaim badly warped lumber that would otherwise be unusable.

Nick also shows several useful jigs and fixtures in this short video. If you’re interested in knowing more about them, here’s where you can see the videos and where you can purchase the plans:

  1. Im not one for woodworking but this absolute gentleman is a pure joy every time he crosses my page, absolutely love what you’re doing, thank you for the interesting information!

  2. Woah, I didn’t know this was an actual technique. I did this yesterday because I was feeling lazy. I thought it was a fluke that it all straightened out.

  3. The last 4 shorts i have watched have all been this or close to this good of an informational video. I want to be an engineer so rn i feel very proud of myself for have a feed full of Gale Banks and physicsduck and not a single idiot dancing.

  4. This is fascinating. This triggers me slightly because I live in leased housing, and the cabinets’ shelves are curved and warp. I tend to counteract by constantly moving the items stored to vary the weight, but it drives me nuts.

  5. You are so smart sir and whoever taught you these things as you teach all of us on the internet that person was a stud

  6. Absolutely mind-blowing—what a simple, elegant solution to what could potentially be a real doozy of a problem otherwise.

  7. Does it matter how you position the two pieces before you put them together? Should they be face to face or stacked? What about flipping them top to bottom?

  8. Awesome tip for beginners… Sometimes even I have learned something new or got something I have forgotten. Love this channel 🤘😎👍

  9. Oooh I actually knew this one, from guitars! A lot of guitar necks are made from multiple pieces and glued in a way that their grains are going the opposite way. These necks are much more resistant to warping or bending

  10. You’re the only guy I’ve seen that uses natural woods rather than MDF for fences. Is there a reason or is it just preference?

  11. Love this guy, I’ve gotten so many useful tips I’m using day to day. My brother was a super carpenter who passed 11 years ago so I’m having to learn and relearn on my own. Super helpful.

  12. I’d love to have you as an uncle or a grandfather.
That’s an odd comment, sure, but you give off very good vibes.
I had to leave school for personal issues with a group of people, and had to give up my woodworking class, so watching these videos is a great substitute!

  13. Well-spoken, concise, informative, and accessible to deaf/HOH people. Please keep doing what you are doing, thank you.

  14. Thank you for helping me get it. You keep giving me the "Aha" moments and it is really nice. I could watch this all day long 😅

  15. Had husband buy many tools that are rarely used (he’s a book/comp geek type). Just wish I lived near someone half as knowledgeable about wood, tools, jigs, etc, to teach me how to put all them to good use. I love any type of wood work I can accomplish, and even those which didn’t turn out completely correct. 🤭 Just afraid of some of the tools, because they are /can be dangerous, if one doesn’t know what they’re doing.
Much obliged for all the tip vids!
